Life Changes

In 1962 two very young people and their 5 month old baby packed up and moved to Tennessee.
Actually that's the Saints home so he was just moving back. We made this move mainly for employment reasons. We needed to go where the job was. Upon arrival we had a few months to wait(during which time my hero worked every kind of gross job you can think of) but then that autumn of 1962 he went to work at Arnold Engineering Development Center.
First he worked as a Security guard and then joined their Fire Dept where he has remained most of the last 48 years. During that time we had our other two children and he went school to become an Emergency Medical Tech. He remained a fireman but now he wore two hats:) Some time around 1970 he was laid off in the big lay off. He worked for a couple of years as a Fireman for the City of Manchester and remained a Volunteer with them until we moved a few years ago. In 1972 he went back to work at AEDC and the following year Daniel was born. For the past two weeks we have spent celebrating our 50 years of marriage together taking a cruise around 7 of the Hawaiian Islands! It was so amazing and wonderful that I can't even begin to explain it. We arrived home Monday and picked up our Fuzzy kids and today my Fireman went back to work as he has done since 1962. At 4 o'clock this afternoon he received an offer he could not refuse and so in just 2 short weeks his career at AEDC will come to an end. He wasn't forced out and they would like for him to stay, but it's time to move on with our lives and enjoy grandchildren and travel and not worry about vacation time etc. It's emotional for us because we were not expecting it but we know it's time. He has not been happy out there since Chief Mott retired a few months ago and we would like to go where it's warmer in the winter. So a new chapter has begun. It's all good.
